pubdate: 2024/04/19 views:

Profile:

Yang Keyu, is a student of the 2023 foundation program of International College(IC) of Xiamen University. She likes music, poetry, and also likes to record my life with words. On behalf of IC, he participated in the 2024 Xiamen University "Minnan Jiageng Cup" Commentator Style Competition, and finally stood out and won the third prize after registration and selection, preliminary competition, and final display.

The original intention of participating in the competition

In this competition, my topic is about biological diversity conducted by the Biology Museum of Xiamen University. In today's world of changesproblems such as marine pollution and global warming can’t be ignored,  it is urgent to understand living things. As a base for biological cognitive education, museums deserve attention and publicity.

I believe that biodiversity is not only related to the humanism in the spirit of Kah Kee, which is in line with our school spirit and college spirit, but also a mainstream topic that is in line with the process of the times and is inseparable from the future development of mankind. As a college student in the new era, I hope to do my part through the way of activity explanation.

Challenges and gains

There were two big challenges: one was how to convey complex knowledge points to the audience in an easy-to-understand way in a limited time, and the other was how to maintain composure and overcome timidity in the competition where there were many masters. I was very impressed by the process of overcoming these two major problems. Through repeated practices, I constantly adjusted the pace and depth of the explanation, and at the same time consulted with experienced seniors to learn from their explanation skills and experience, and finally won the ranking.

Participating in the competition, I have gained a lot, not only enriched my knowledge system, had a deeper understanding of relevant knowledge and explanation skills, but also met very good classmates, and received careful guidance from teachers and judges, which allowed me to grow rapidly.

What I want to say to teachers and classmates:

The competition venue is located in Siming Campus, which is relatively inconvenient for transportation and data collection, and I am very grateful for the help of IC teachers, so that I can better organize the materials and prepare for the competition. At the same time, I would also like to thank the students from different majors, who shared their views on the topic selection from their own perspectives, which gave me a lot of inspiration, and even after the competition, we still have a discussion on the hot topic of biodiversity, which helped me a lot.

As a IC student, I gave full play to my professional advantages and integrated English into my lectures. The help and guidance provided by the college made me deeply feel that I am not alone in the competition, and IC is a strong backing for us on the way forward, providing more opportunities for our development, allowing us to grasp every opportunity while cultivating our interests and abilities and opening up our life path.

Looking to the future

This competition has made me understand and believe in myself more, which not only changed part of my cognition and perception of university life, but also made me more deeply aware of the great significance of social science education.

In the future, I will also actively participate in various social practice activities related to nature conservation and mutual welfare. At the same time, I also look forward to continuing to cooperate with the teachers and students of the college to write a youthful chapter of university life.
