Chen Ye, a student majoring in international finance in the 2013 Foundation (3+1+1) Program of International College, Xiamen University (XMU). After studying at the International College, he went to Deakin University in Australia to complete subsequent undergraduate studies and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce.

At the postgraduate stage, he obtained offers from Monash University in Australia, Australian National University, Deakin University in Australia, and University of New South Wales in Australia. At present, he has successfully graduated from the Australian National University, which ranks 27th in the QS World University Rankings and 1st in the QS Australian University Rankings in 2022, with a master degree in applied finance.

Growth in International College

What is more important is that International College has high-quality teaching level. Most of the teachers have backgrounds in famous overseas schools. Their teaching mode is the same as that of foreign countries, which lays a good foundation for me to quickly adapt to the Australian teaching mode. I am very grateful to the teachers of International College, Xiamen University, especially Ms Yang Shuai who teaches economics, Mr Yang Zhihong, who teaches the courses on International Trade, Ms Liu Jiali who teaches accounting, and Ms Zeng Juehua and Wang Roujie who teach English, etc., it was their careful teaching that made my study abroad smoothly.

Pursuing Master Degree at Australian National University

The teaching model of International College, XMU is similar to the teaching model of Australian universities, so I quickly adapted to the study life in Australia. I have a certain learning foundation in course study, report writing and even exams, and it has become easier to pass the assessment.

I am particularly interested in the financial market, but the knowledge structure at the undergraduate level is relatively basic, and the financial knowledge I have learned is still a little insufficient, so I continue to apply for a master's degree to improve the level of financial professional knowledge.

In terms of applying for schools, Australian master's applications attach great importance on students' grades at the undergraduate level (GPA requirement is 5/7). If graduate students want to apply to the top eight schools in Australia or other good schools in the UK, their usual grades in each subject must not fall behind. In terms of time, you should apply as early as possible, about half a year in advance.

In general, the Australian curriculum in master's level is not very different from the undergraduate level. The main difference is that the learning curve of the master's level is steeper. In other words, the difficulty of the master's course will be greater than that of the undergraduate level. There are more reports, papers, quizzes, and exams correspondingly. In the second half of the master's study, there are correspondingly more courses in empirical analysis.

Suggestions for Study in Australia

My study life in Australia is quiet busy and simple, but I can also find a balance between study and life, such as cultivating some of my own hobbies. I like photography very much. There are many beautiful scenery in Australia. At that time, I also went on a road trip with my friends to take pictures.

In terms of the epidemic situation, Australia's handling and control of the COVID is relatively good. Compared with the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and other countries, the epidemic situation in Australia is not very serious because of the previous lockdown, and it is relatively safe. Most people are vaccinated and it’s free for international students. If students want to go abroad, they can get 3 shots of the vaccine and bring more masks and other anti-epidemic materials, these will help.
